How Delivery Actually Works
The name "roll-off" describes the mechanism: the truck carries the container on a set of hydraulic rails. On delivery, the truck backs into position, then the rails tilt downward, lowering the container onto a built-in roller track until it slides off the truck bed and onto the ground at the chosen spot. A cable or hook system helps control the container as it's lowered.
How Pickup Works
Pickup reverses the process. The truck backs up to the loaded container, a cable winches it up the tilted rails and onto the truck bed, and the truck levels out for transport to the disposal or recycling facility. Because of this back-and-forth motion, roll-off trucks need a relatively straight, unobstructed path to and from the container's position.

How much space does a delivery truck need?
A roll-off truck needs enough straight clearance to back in and enough overhead room to tilt and lower the container, generally a level, unobstructed path free of low branches or wires along the delivery route.
